the park. KMC has leased 110,000 sqm of land at Kohatu Park located just to the east of Tapawera in Tasman.

The park will cater for adventure bikes, enduro bikes and children’s fun area where children’s bikes and quads can be used.

The centre will be open every two weeks initially on a Saturday or Sunday and more often as its popularity grows. There will be a charge initially of $30 per adult and $10 per child under 15. We expect to also host training days, fun open days, bike golf, rallies and manufacturers days for people to test ride bikes. A long-term goal is to have a number of rental motorcycles on site to allow people to have an introduction to off road motorcycling.

In this first year we expect 200 adventure bike riders and 150 road bike riders as well as a number of classic bikes in static displays around participating restaurants and bars for the general public to get involved.

The adventure bike riders will enjoy two days of usually closed areas around and within the Nelson Tasman region while the road bike riders will have two days of events taking them as far as Kaiteriteri and St Arnaud.

Each bike will need to be vetted by local motorcycle shops leading up to the event and stickered with sponsors logos to verify their participation.

We intend to run the event growing in numbers steadily over the next five years.
